Garden Grown and Hand Spun
FLAX
dg1008003.jpg
Flax Plant
This is what this flax looks like after it has been grown and pulled up by the roots. After the plant is dew retted the outer part of the stalk is broken and peeled off revealing the tiny flax fibers.
Flax Fiber
The long fibers are combed through metal hackles in preparation to be spun.
After the flax plant is processed, the fibers are wrapped around the distaff. This flax is hanging on the distaff ready to be spun.
Linen Thread
Flax after it has been spun become LINEN thead.
This is an example of hand spun linen thread. This thread is period correct for sewing up Colonial Hunting bags, garments, pouches, moccasins, and other sundry goods.
Renee in the future will hopefully be selling hand spun Linen Thread in limited quantities to Long Hunters, Re-enactors, and other interested parties.
